Day 4: Friday 3 July

Skipton to Gargrave.

We left the Travelodge via a stile to the main road, which we crossed to enter a double walled pathway. I don't think we've ever attempted to walk on such an overgrown path.

We did eventually get down to the canal, retracing the route of our arrival. As the field had been mowed since our arrival, our departure was much less frought than it might have been.

Near our start on the canal we saw the following sign about canine bodily function. The clarity of the sign struck me as being similar to that of the parking signs on Torquay promenade.

The walk by the canal today was markedly more rural than what we had experienced previously. We were out in the country!

However it was only around the time we passed yet another swing bridge that we realised we hadn't seen a lock since Bingley. Over a day's walking beside a flat water surface. The lock drought was eventually broken by two locks in quick succession at Gargrave.
.
At Gargrave we left the canal to head North along the Pennine Way to Malham. Here we will make a few day walks before heading for Horton in Ribblesdale for three days. We will then return, via a day in Settle to Gargrave, to continue our canal journey.
